Let's Talk TV

     Ok so the new seasons for most shows have started. We dvr'd most of the new shows that we at least wanted to see the first episode of. Top of my list to never watch again...Ringer...that is one horrible show, great idea, poor execution. The effects on that first episode had me laughing, it literally looked like something out of and old Elvis movie. The show was so slow that I just could not stay involved in it at all.
     Now on to some of the new shows that we are at least going to give a second chance to. Two Broke Girls looks like a really cute show, I laughed quite a bit and it does not seem like a carbon copy of anything recent (at least that I can think of). I am going to put 2 and a half men in this category too because without Charlie Sheen it just seems like a different show, but I was amused and did enjoy it. I will at least watch a few more episodes to see where the story line goes from here. I really hope Ashton gets a hair cut though... I think we have a couple more shows left on the dvr to watch still and will add my reviews later on those (like it matters lol)
     Sons of Anarchy looks like it is going to have some interesting plays this season, like every season so far. I will tell you I'm getting rather tired of Jax's mom always getting her big nose into everything. So far though Kurt Sutter has continued doing an awesome job writing this show, he truly is an amazing writer.
     How I met your mother had a good season premere. I just hope one day to find out how he did. It is a good show and I don't believe I have ever seen and episode that I have not enjoyed. I have also started watching The Big Bang Theory...funny show, I am going to have to start watching that from the beginning.
     So there you have it, my reviews or thoughts on the current seaons of real tv...none of that reality crap.

What a week

     So...It's finally thursday. Jax has been sick for 2 weeks now, Ches and me are sick as well. We have been sick all week. I found out yesterday that I have a mid-term on monday (although monday is only week 6 of 16)..so guess what I will be doing all weekend. I had an eye exam monday and found out that my eyes are not tracking together, if I try to hold my head still and follow something with my eyes I end up seeing double...not good. Tomorrow I have another eye exam and will be having my eyes dialated Yeah! I am supposed to have a 30 mile bike ride on saturday and I am hoping that I will feel good enough and be able to see well enough to go. I am still loving the bike riding. I am trying to get into a ride in Florida next month that will be from Tampa to Orlando...or Orlando to Tampa...either way its a 400 mile ride over 5 days. I think I will be able to make it, or at least well over half of it :)
     Jaxen has started doing really well at daycare. Apparently today he waved bye to Ches when she dropped him off, and today marks day three of him not crying when she dropped him off. That is a bitter sweet feeling. School for me is going well. I am enjoying my english class and finding that writing is coming rather naturally to me...just not spelling. My computer class is going good also, I just wish I would have taken it online. Other than that there is not alot going on in the Thurman household. Hopefully Saturday I will have a much more interesting post for ya'll to read.

Waco wild west

Ok so today was my first organized ride and only my second time on my road bike. The day started at 530 this morning with me waking up and remembering that I had some minor stuff to work on with the bike. After I got dressed and finished removing the foot cages and adding my back light, I loaded the bike up left for Jodi's house. I got to Jodi's and we loaded my bike on her rack and headed up to Waco for the ride. When we got there I started getting extremely nervous, one because I was wondering if I would complete the 25 mile course and two because of the large number of people around. Jodi introduced me to alot of her friends and they were all very nice (but please don't ask me thier names). When we got to the starting area Jodi realized she had not locked the car and we were in downtown Waco so she took off to lock it...my anxiety started to kick up a bit. I dealt with the anxiety by checking out all of the different jerseys around me, and trying not to focus on the fact that these were all people surrounding me and there was no way for me to make a quick exit if I needed to. Jodi was back rather quick and the race started, were were "skateboarding" up to the front where we could actually start riding. "Skateboarding" is when you have one foot on your pedal and you are standing up and pushing along on the ground. Well, as we were skateboarding up I almost fell over on the guy next to me. I don't know if Jodi saw it or not, but I was thinking "great I have not even sat on the saddle and almost wrecked, this is gonna be a long day." We finally made it to where we could start actually riding, and I will tell you that riding across the bridge in waco to start was a great way to start. I felt very comfortable at the beginning, right up until Jodi said something about the cows over to my right and I made the mistake of looking that direction. Well, I took a slight detour off road but handled it well. I stayed up and didn't try to turn the bike back on the road, I just stopped. That was the only other mishap of the ride. We had our first rest stop at mile 8 and our second was around mile 18. The people running the stops were awesome, well all the people supporting this event were awesome. The route was beautiful and it was great weather to ride! I finished the ride in 2 hours and 9 min (counting the rest stops) it was actually under 2 hours of actually riding. My average speed was 13.5 mph and I have to say I am pretty dern proud of that for my second time ever on a road bike. I really do think I have found something that I can and want to do long term. Thank you Jodi so much for your support and encouragement throughout this ride. I can not wait for the next one!!!

               Tomorrow is my first ride. I will be riding in the Waco Wild West Century. However, I will not be doing the century ride…not even close I will be riding 25 miles. Luckily, I will have a great partner riding with me, my step mom Jodi. She is a very experienced rider and I have more confidence knowing she will be riding next to me. I am extremely excited about this ride and my goal is just to finish. I know this is going to be fun and painful all at once. I will be posting my time and average speed to my blog as a way for me to track my progress through my rides.  

All of that was typed earlier in the day as I was sitting in the parking lot at work waiting for a worthless meeting ;)... This evening Me, Ches and Jodi went to Waco and got registered for the ride. Well Jodi and I registered. I got my t-shirt and water bottle and recieved my number for the ride.  I will be wearing 887 and Jodi will be wearing 886. I should probably be in bed now, but I am too excited and really can not sleep. Hopefully I will have the energy tomorrow to post and let y'all know how I did. Wish me luck!

First Blog Post EVER!

Well this is a FIRST for me! I have created a blog and will be posting on here almost daily. I have created this as an assignment for school; however, it will serve multiple purposes for me as I transition from my military life to my civillian life. I will be posting some of my free writing assignments from my Comp class in here as well as information on my med board process and my new ventures into the world of road cycling.
